Northen, Rebecca Tyson. Home Orchid Growing, Third Edition. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1970.: A comprehensive book for the serious grower. Arguably the best general orchid reference.
Northen, Rebecca Tyson. Miniature Orchids. New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1980.: Contains cultural information on hundreds of miniature species.
Sander, David. Orchids and Their Cultivation. Dorset: Blandford Press, 1975.: Although dated this book gives very useful info on orchid care and cultivation. The first edition of this classic text was published in 1932!
Sessler, Gloria Jean. Orchids & How to Grow Them. Englewood Cliffs: Prentice-Hall, 1978.: Complete detailed edition full of how-to's and information including exhibitions.

Cribb, Phillip. The Genus Paphiopedilum. Portland: Timber Press, 1987.: Excellent reference with beautiful color plates.
Noble, Mary. You Can Grow Cattleya Orchids. Jacksonville: Mary Noble, 1968.: Very good for beginners. Although dated it gives the reader a foundation on which to build.
